Coding is required to tell the vehicles ECU that a towbar is present so the towing electrics will function properly. This is done with a diagnostic tool, and may need to be done by the main dealers.

Bumper Cuts
Bumper cuts are cut on the underside of the bumper.
None visible : the cut will not be visible unless you look up at the bumper from the ground.
Visible: the cut will be visible when standing behind the vehicle.

Bypass Required
Many modern vehicles require a bypass relay for the towbar electrics to work correctly. If your vehicle requires this relay then damage can occur to the cars electrics if one isn't fitted.

Excellent product, I found the Volvo instructions, which can be downloaded from the Volvo accessories web site, very helpful. The Volvo OE bar is also made by Brink but slightly different. The Volvo OE 13 pin wiring harness is also a good investment (£96) as it is plug and play. Both were reasonably easy for an experienced DIY mechanic (me) to fit. The bar is robust and easy to detach. The harness control box needs dealer software to operate all features.
