Volvo XC70 Towing Specifications

The Volvo V70 is an executive estate car manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars from 1996 to 2016 across three generations. The name V70 combines the letter V, standing for versatility, and 70, denoting relative platform size. We will cover the towing Specifications for all three generations below. In 2003 an all-wheel-drive variant marketed as the V70 AWD and as a crossover version initially called V70 XC. For the model year 2003, the crossover was renamed to XC70.

Volvo XC70 2007-2016 Towbar electric kits

We recommend that all tow bars fitted to a Volvo XC70 2007-2016 are fitted with a dedicated electrics kit, this not only helps to ensure all modern features, such as trailer stability, parking sensors function correctly, but also ensures that the vehicles manufacturer’s warranty is not invalidated.

We offer both 7 pin and 13 pin dedicated electrics kits for the Volvo XC70's 2007-2016.

A quick look at Volvo's warranty page confirms that XC70's, produced in the last three years will have a manufacturers warranty active.

"For three years from the date that the vehicle is delivered to the first owner or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, any component failure attributable to faulty materials or workmanship during manufacture will be rectified free of charge by an authorised Volvo dealer.

For three years from the date that the vehicle is delivered to the first owner, any paintwork defects and surface rust attributable to faulty materials or workmanship during manufacture will be rectified free of charge by an authorised Volvo dealer." Volvo Warranty information

We do of course offer, Volvo XC70 2003-2016 universal electrics kits, however as stated these will invalidate any manufacturer warranty you may have.

Bypass Relays

Volvo XC70 2003-2016 will require a bypass relay when universal electrics are fitted. Bypass relays are used to ensure that the kit does not present faults on the dashboard. A bypass relay helps the universal kit hide from your vehicle ECU and functions so as not to put faults on the dashboard hence the name “BYPASS”.

A dedicated system works in harmony with your vehicles ECU and all of its functions.

Coding

This is the coding of the ECU to accept the dedicated system, this updates your vehicle's software to run smoothly with the new towbar, it works very much like an update to your smartphone. All Volvo XC70 2003-2016 do not require coding.

The only option on Volvo XC70 2003-2016 towbars is None Visible a bumper cut is required.

Nose weight

Nose weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the tow ball, it is important to not exceed the nose weight set on the tow bar, failure to do so could damage the car chassis and/or tow bar mounting points. For the Volvo XC70's 2003-2016 the minimum capacity nose weight is 80kg, the maximum capacity nose weight is 90kg, nose weights are displayed under each tow bar below.

Towing weight

Towing weight is the weight that the Volvo XC70 2003-2016 Onwards towbars can tow safely, without damaging the vehicle, the maximum towing weight capacity is 2100kg, the minimum towing weight capacity is 2000kg.

You will need to check the towing limit for your model of Volvo XC70 as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.  

Volvo XC70 2004-2007

For Volvo XC70's manufactured in 2004 or 2007, it is important you correctly determine which model you have to ensure you get the correct towbar.
