VW Golf 7 Pin Electrics (V/VI)

7 Pin Kits

The socket has 7 pins, hence the name, if you are towing a trailer, cycle carrier or towing counterpart that needs power to lighting functions only, you will need a universal or dedicated 7 pin (12N) electrics kit.

Vehicle Specific Kits vs Universal Kits

The most obvious difference between a vehicle specific or dedicated wiring kit and a universal wiring kit is price with universal kits being cheaper in most cases.

We recommend dedicated electrics for any vehicle still under warranty as fitting universal wiring kits that do not specifically correspond with the vehicles electrical and wiring system will invalidate your manufacturer's warranty.

In most modern vehicles, a bypass relay s required when fitting universal kits to coordinate power between the vehicle and towing counterpart - we include a bypass in your kit for any vehicles that need it.

In some cases where a 7 pin dedicated kit isn't available for your car, we will provide you with an adapter so you can carry on using your trailer, cycle carrier or caravan.

Technical Key Words

We know that wiring kits can be confusing, and sometimes we use technical phrases and abbriviations that you may or may not understand. Here's our quick Technical Key Word Guide:

TP

TP or Trailer Preparation (also known as "Towing Preparation" or "Prepared Connector") just means that when your car was being made, the manufacturer added a special wiring connector specifically for towing - it is located at the rear of your car making it easier to fit the wiring kit. If you don't know if your car has TP or not, you will need to contact the car manufacturer.

Bypass

Only used on universal kits, a bypass is a box that allows the wiring to bypass the vehciles faults system when you install and cut the wiring loom on vehicles with CANBUS systems. We have included a bypass in your kit if your car requires it - make sure you buy the right year towbar to ensure you are getting the right universal electrics kit.

Hi Aaron, The fitting instructions show that you need to replace the lower bumper section with a new VW part with the cut out. Hi Andrew We do advise fitting the trim if the towbar requires it however you can just cut the bumper but it will be visible and as for the template i wouldn't be 100% sure Kind regards

Hi Aaron, I'm thinking that this may be a better bet as the bumper doesn't need cutting and if you weren't using for a long time you could actually remove the swan neck. http://www.pfjones.co.uk/golf-v-hatchback-2004-swan-neck-tow-bar-1.html What are the dimensions/weight? I'll buy with dedicated VW electrics. I have a complex circuit tester/meter, what will the LED circuit tester give me? Hi Andrew The golf towbar will be ok however we dont advise you keep taking the neck off as the bolts have to be torqued to a setting the circuit tester is just for testing the live feeds when you have exported the items if you send the correct paperwork to us proving they have left the country to a vatex country we should be able to refund the vat for you. im afraid i dont have all the information on sizes and weights of this item however it should be the same as this weight would be 25.0 kg and size would be 125x20x40 Kind regards

Aaron, Thanks for your help, I've provided 'great' feedback. Final questions>>> Do you have all these items in stock and what is normal delivery time? Can you supply towbar bubble wrapped and in a box that I can check in at the airport. I may also put heater in same box up to 23Kg limit. Regards

Hi Andrew The weight of the towbar without packaging would be 20kg and we can bubble wrap this for you i would put the weight down as 21/22kg with packaging so you need to check the weight of the heater we have the items in stock delivery time is 1-3 working days most stuff is there next day Kind regards

Hi Aaron, I notice that you also do a VW T5 kit that would suit my California. http://www.pfjones.co.uk/eberspacher-airtronic-vw-t5-d2-digital-controller-kit.html I intend buying the VW bracket and ducting in order to get a factory finish so need a customised kit between the two options. Can you give me a quote for the VW T5 package minus: External heater mounting bracket, 2 x 60mm hot air ducting, Inlet and outlet vents. If I get the factory bits first, do you have the rest in stock? Regards

Aaaron, It was the bracket as well. The California has a 5Kw Webasto for the engine / heating on start up so you can T into the fuel line for that. That's why I would need the T pieces and connectors, I wouldn't need the standpipe. Looks like best bet is the £635 kit and buy the other small bits. I'm getting a VW bracket and ducting to achieve closer to factory finish. Regards

I assume I can buy T pieces, connectors etc. separately. I will wait until I am back in UK to order this and the tow bar as I'm still sort out best place to have it delivered. Thanks for all your help. Regards Andrew Steele

Hi Andrew Yes you can buy t pieces etc and no problem whenever your ready just contact us. We still do advise fitting the standpipe instead of t pieces but it is upto you Westfalia have only the 2 towbars that are already allocated to us, we would be able to send it Weds for delivery Thurs/Fri. The D2 kit is available but you would need to place the order online due to the amount (We have a limit for phone payments) Kind regards

I'm now back in NZ with the diesel heater and towbar I bought from you in UK (order ref 605867 and 605846). I would like you to refund me the VAT as I have exported the items to a Vatex country as discussed below. You did not supply me with any paperwork to get stamped by customs, but I can provided you with e-tickets from UK to NZ and if necessary a photograph showing the items alongside the appropriate vehicles which have NZ plates. Will this be sufficient or do you need other evidence or declaration? Regards

Hi, I am looking for a detachable tow bar for a golf mk5 GT TDI which will work with the rear OEM bumper with the removeable window to accomodate a detachable tow bar. I currently have a swan neck tow bar which I intend to replace so I don't think I will need the electrics, just the tow bar. Can you let me know if you have any that will suit and the prices please?
