Coding is required to tell the vehicles ECU that a towbar is present so the towing electrics will function properly. This is done with a diagnostic tool, and may need to be done by the main dealers.

Many modern vehicles require a bypass relay for the towbar electrics to work correctly. If your vehicle requires this relay then damage can occur to the cars electrics if one isn't fitted.

I'd like a dedicated wiring kit for a 2011 Qashqai. The drop down only gives 2014 onwards. I don't really want to fit a universal bypass relay if I can fit a simple dedicated kit. Please advise.

Hi Brendan,
Here are the links to both the Dedicated kits for your vehicle.

If you add the Towbar to the basket without electrics then add one of these wiring kits that should be alright for you.
Cheers

Hi Chris,
There is universal wiring which is the cheapest, needs to be spliced into the vehicles wiring but perfectly safe or you could go for dedicated wiring which is a kit made for the vehicle (like the genuine kit) so it mostly plugs straight in and will enable any settings the vehicle has for example switch off parking sensors or activate trailer stability (Recommended for cars under warranty).
The dedicated kit for this vehicle is very easy to fit with just 2 plugs at the back of the vehicle and not much more expensive, then just whichever socket you need 7 pin or 13 pin.
Thanks.
