Volvo XC60 Towing Specifications

The Volvo XC60 is a compact luxury crossover SUV, the XC60 has been Volvo's best selling car since 2009. Currently in its second generation. We will cover the towing Specifications for both generations below.

Volvo XC60 2017 Onwards Towbar electric kits

We recommend that all tow bars fitted to a Volvo XC60 2017 Onwards are fitted with a dedicated electrics kit, this not only helps to ensure all modern features, such as trailer stability, parking sensors function correctly, but also ensures that the vehicles manufacturer’s warranty is not invalidated. A quick look at Volvo's warranty page confirms that XC60's produced from 2017 onwards, produced in the last three years will have a manufacturers warranty active.
"For three years from the date that the vehicle is delivered to the first owner or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, any component failure attributable to faulty materials or workmanship during manufacture will be rectified free of charge by an authorised Volvo dealer.

For three years from the date that the vehicle is delivered to the first owner, any paintwork defects and surface rust attributable to faulty materials or workmanship during manufacture will be rectified free of charge by an authorised Volvo dealer." Volvo Warranty information
We do of course offer, Volvo XC60 2017 Onwards universal electrics kits, however as stated these will invalidate any manufacturer warranty you may have.

Bypass Relays

Volvo XC60 2017 onwards will require a bypass relay when universal electrics are fitted. Bypass relays are used to ensure that the kit does not present faults on the dashboard. A bypass relay helps the universal kit hide from your vehicle ECU and functions so as not to put faults on the dashboard hence the name “BYPASS”. A dedicated system works in harmony with your vehicles ECU and all of its functions.

Coding

This is the coding of the ECU to accept the dedicated system, this updates your vehicle's software to run smoothly with the new towbar, it works very much like an update to your smartphone. All Volvo XC60 2017 onwards do not require coding.

Bumper cuts

The only option on Volvo XC60 2017 onwards towbars is None Visible a bumper cut is required.

Nose weight

Nose weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the tow ball, it is important to not exceed the nose weight set on the tow bar, failure to do so could damage the car chassis and/or tow bar mounting points. For the Volvo XC60's 2017 onwards the minimum capacity nose weight is 110kg, the maximum capacity nose weight is 150kg, nose weights are displayed under each tow bar below.

Towing weight

Towing weight is the weight that the Volvo XC60 2017 Onwards towbars can tow safely, without damaging the vehicle, the maximum towing weight capacity is 2700kg, the minimum towing weight capacity is 1500kg.
 
You will need to check the towing limit for your model of Volvo XC60 as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.  


Volvo XC60 2008-2017

For Volvo XC60's manufactured in 2017, it is important you correctly determine which model you have to ensure you get the correct towbar. You can check this from your logbook, if you own an XC60 that falls on a change overyear, please feel free to contact the sales team to discuss your concerns.

We offer both 7 pin and 13 pin dedicated electrics kits for the Volvo XC60's 2008-2017. A quick look at Volvo's warranty page confirms that XC60's, produced in the last three years will have a manufacturers warranty active.

You will need to check the towing limit for your model of Volvo XC60's 2008-2017 as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.
