Volvo S60 Towing Specifications

The Volvo S60 is a compact luxury saloon that is praised for its safety, manufactured by Volvo Cars. Now in its third generation, originally launched in the Autumn of 2000. Below we will cover the towing specifications of the last three generations of Volvo S60's.

Volvo S60 2010 Onwards Towbar electric kits

We recommend that all tow bars fitted to a Volvo S60 2010 Onwards are fitted with a dedicated electrics kit, this not only helps to ensure all modern features, such as trailer stability, parking sensors function correctly, but also ensures that the vehicles manufacturer’s warranty is not invalidated. A quick look at Volvo's warranty page confirms that S60's produced from 2016 onwards, produced in the last three years will have a manufacturers warranty active.

"For three years from the date that the vehicle is delivered to the first owner or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, any component failure attributable to faulty materials or workmanship during manufacture will be rectified free of charge by an authorised Volvo dealer. For three years from the date that the vehicle is delivered to the first owner, any paintwork defects and surface rust attributable to faulty materials or workmanship during manufacture will be rectified free of charge by an authorised Volvo dealer." We do of course offer, Volvo S60 2010 Onwards universal electrics kits, however as stated these will invalidate any manufacturer warranty you may have.

Bypass Relays

Volvo S60's 2010 Onwards will require a bypass relay when universal electrics are fitted. Bypass relays are used to ensure that the kit does not present faults on the dashboard. A bypass relay helps the universal kit hide from your vehicle ECU and functions so as not to put faults on the dashboard hence the name “BYPASS”. A dedicated system works in harmony with your vehicles ECU and all of its functions.

Coding

This is the coding of the ECU to accept the dedicated system, this updates your vehicle's software to run smoothly with the new towbar, it works very much like an update to your smartphone. All Volvo S60 2010 Onwards will not require coding.

Bumper cuts

The options on Volvo S60 2010 Onwards towbars are None Visible or Visible, a bumper cut is required.

Nose weight

Nose weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the tow ball, it is important to not exceed the nose weight set on the tow bar, failure to do so could damage the car chassis and/or tow bar mounting points. For the Volvo S60 2010 Onwards the maximum capacity nose weight is 90kg, the minimum capacity nose weight is 80kg, nose weights are displayed under each tow bar below.

Towing weight

Towing weight is the weight that the Volvo S60 2016 Onwards Hatchback towbars can tow safely, without damaging the vehicle, the maximum towing weight capacity is 1900kg. the minimum towing weight capacity is 1800kg.

You will need to check the towing limit for your model of Volvo S60 as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.  

Volvo S60 2004-2010

Volvo S60's manufactured between2004-2010, if you have a 2004 or 2010 model it is important you correctly determine which model you have to ensure you get the correct towbar.
