Bypass Relays

All Volkswagen Passat Saloon 2015 Onwards fits that use a universal towbar electrics kit will require a require a bypass relay, this is to ensure that it does not present faults on the dashboard. A bypass relay helps the universal kit hide from your vehicle ECU and functions so as not to put faults on the dashboard hence the name “BYPASS” A dedicated system works in harmony with your vehicles ECU and all of its functions.

Coding

This is the coding of the ECU to accept the dedicated system, this updates your vehicle's software to run smoothly with the new towbar, it works very much like an update to your smartphone. Volkswagen Passat Saloon's vehicles made between 2015 onwards will require coding.

Bumper cuts

We currently only offer towards that require a none visible cut, for the Passat saloon for this year range a bumper cut is required.

Nose weight

Nose weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the tow ball, it is important to not exceed the nose weight set on the tow bar, failure to do so could damage the car chassis and/or tow bar mounting points. For the Volkswagen Passat Saloon's manufactured between 2015 onwards, the minimum capacity is 90KG the maximum capacity is 140kg, nose weights are displayed under each tow bar below.

Towing weight

Towing weight is the weight that the Volkswagen Passat Saloon 2011-2015 towbars can tow safely, without damaging the vehicle, the minimum capacity is 2200kg, the maximum capacity is 2400kg for all the tow bars that fit Volkswagen Passat Saloon 2015 Onwards. You will need to check the towing limit for your model of Passat Estate as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.

Volkswagen Passat Saloon 2011-2015 B7

Volkswagen Passat Saloon's manufactured between 2011-2015, if you have a 2011 or 2015 Passat Estate it is important you correctly determine which model you have to ensure you get the correct towbar. You can check this from your logbook, if you own a Passat Estate that falls on a changeover year, please feel free to contact the sales team to discuss your concerns.

We recommend that all bars fitted to a 2011-2015 Volkswagen Passat Saloon's are fitted with a dedicated electrics kit, this not only helps to ensure all modern features, such as trailer stability, parking sensors function correctly, but also ensures that the vehicles manufacturer’s warranty is not invalidated. A quick look at Volkswagen's warranty page confirmsthatPassat Estate's produced between 2011 - 2015 will no longer have a manufacturers warranty active,

• A 2-year unlimited mileage manufacturers warranty.
• A further 1 year / 60,000 miles (whichever is soonest) warranty.

This means you're covered for a total of 3 years or up to 60,000 miles, whichever comes first Used cars purchased from Volkswagen come with 12 months warranty. Volkswagen Passat Saloon's manufactured between the years 2005-2011, if you have a 2005 or 2011 Passat Estate it is important you correctly determine which model you have to ensure you get the correct towbar. There are no dedicated kits for this year range, only universal kits are available.

You will need to check the towing limit for your model of Passat Estate as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.
