Golf Plus Towing Specifications

The Golf Plus was launched in 2004, with towbars arriving on the market in 2005. Based on the Volkswagen Group A5 (PQ35) platform, it is 95 mm (3.74 in) taller than the standard Golf, and 150 mm (5.91 in) shorter than the other compact MPV of the marque, the seven-seater Volkswagen Touran.

Volkswagen Golf Plus Towbar electric kits

We recommend that all tow bars fitted to a Volkswagen Golf Plus are fitted with a dedicated electrics kit, this not only helps to ensure all modern features, such as trailer stability, parking sensors function correctly, but also ensures that the vehicles manufacturer’s warranty is not invalidated. A quick look at Volkswagen's warranty page confirms that Golf Plus will only potentially have a manufacturers warranty active if it is an approved used vehicle, purchased from VW.

• A 2-year unlimited mileage manufacturers warranty.
• A further 1 year / 60,000 miles (whichever is soonest) warranty.

We do of course offer, Golf Plus universal electrics kits, however as stated these will invalidate any manufacturer warranty you may have.

Bypass Relays

For the Volkswagen Golf Plus will require a bypass relay when universal electrics are fitted.

Bypass relays are used to ensure that the kit does not present faults on the dashboard. A bypass relay helps the universal kit hide from your vehicle ECU and functions so as not to put faults on the dashboard hence the name “BYPASS”

A dedicated system works in harmony with your vehicles ECU and all of its functions.

Coding

This is the coding of the ECU to accept the dedicated system, this updates your vehicle's software to run smoothly with the new towbar, it works very much like an update to your smartphone. All Volkswagen Golf Plus vehicles will require coding.

Bumper cuts

We offer all three options for towbars for the Plus, No Cut, Dealer trim required, and Visible, a bumper cut is not always required.

Nose weight

Nose weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the tow ball, it is important to not exceed the nose weight set on the tow bar, failure to do so could damage the car chassis and/or tow bar mounting points. For the Volkswagen Golf Plus, the nose range varies only slightly over the different tow bars. The minimum capacity nose weight is 75kg, and the maximum capacity nose weight is 110kg, nose weights are displayed under each tow bar below. (Applicable for both year ranges)

Towing weight

Towing weight is the weight that the Volkswagen Golf Plus towbars can tow safely, without damaging the vehicle, the maximum capacity towing weight is 2200kg, and the minimum capacity towing capacity is 1800kg. The towing weight is shown under each towbar, as capacities are towbar specific.

You will need to check the towing limit for your model of Golf Plus as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.
