Volkswagen Caravelle Towing Specifications

The Volkswagen Caravelle is a minibus based on various transporter models, we stock towbars for three generations of Caravelle, from the 1991 T4 based, to the 2015 T6 based Caravelle.

Volkswagen Caravelle 2015 (T6) Onwards Towbar electric kits

We recommend that all tow bars fitted to a Caravelle 2015 (T6) Onwards are fitted with a dedicated electrics kit, this not only helps to ensure all modern features, such as trailer stability, parking sensors function correctly, but also ensures that the vehicles manufacturer’s warranty is not invalidated. A quick look at Volkswagen's warranty page confirms that the Caravelle, produced in the last two years will have a manufacturers warranty active.

• A 2-year unlimited mileage manufacturers warranty.
• A further 1 year / 60,000 miles (whichever is soonest) warranty.

We do of course offer, VW Caravelle 2015 (T6) Onwards universal electrics kits, however as stated these will invalidate any manufacturer warranty you may have.

Bypass Relays

Volkswagen Caravelle's 2015 (T6) onwards will require a bypass relay, when universal electrics are fitted. Bypass relays are used to ensure that the kit does not present faults on the dashboard. A bypass relay helps the universal kit hide from your vehicle ECU and functions so as not to put faults on the dashboard hence the name “BYPASS”. A dedicated system works in harmony with your vehicles ECU and all of its functions.

Coding

This is the coding of the ECU to accept the dedicated system, this updates your vehicle's software to run smoothly with the new towbar, it works very much like an update to your smartphone. All Volkswagen Caravelle's 2015 (T6) onwards will require coding.

Bumper cuts

The only option on Volkswagen Caravelle's 2015 (T6) onwards towbars is No Cut, and None Visible a bumper cut is not required.

Nose weight

Nose weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the tow ball, it is important to not exceed the nose weight set on the tow bar, failure to do so could damage the car chassis and/or tow bar mounting points. For the Volkswagen Caravelle's 2015 (T6) onwards the nose range varies only slightly over the different tow bars. The minimum capacity nose weight is 100kg, and the maximum capacity nose weight is 120kg, nose weights are displayed under each tow bar below.

Towing weight

Towing weight is the weight that the Volkswagen Caravelle's 2015 (T6) onwards towbars can tow safely, without damaging the vehicle, the maximum towing weight capacity is 2800kg, and the minimum towing weight capacity is 2500kg. The towing weight is shown under each towbar, as capacities are towbar specific.

You will need to check the towing limit for your model of Volkswagen Caravelle as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.  

Volkswagen Caravelle T5 2009-2015

For Volkswagen Caravelle's (T5) manufactured in 2009 or 2015, it is important you correctly determine which model you have to ensure you get the correct towbar.
