Renault Alaskan Towing Specifications
Below we will cover the Renault Alaskan's towing specifications.Renault Alaskan Towbar electric kits
We recommend that all tow bars fitted to a Renault Alaskan's are fitted with a dedicated electrics kit, this not only helps to ensure all modern features, such as trailer stability, parking sensors function correctly, but also ensures that the vehicles manufacturer’s warranty is not invalidated.A quick look at Renault's warranty page, personally I found Renault's warranty page to be the most confusing, however, it does appear to offer the option to extend your warranty up to 10 years, which makes it by far the most comprehensive warranty program I have seen. Depending on whether you have taken the extended warranty cover, Renault Alaskan's which are less than three years old, and which have driven less than 100,000 miles on the clock, will have a manufacturers warranty active.
" Renault New car warranty EasyLife PackWe do of course offer, Renault Alaskan universal electrics kits, however as stated these will invalidate any manufacturer warranty you may have.
Renault Warranty informationYour vehicle is covered by a warranty package for up to 3 years from date of first registration with unlimited mileage during the first 24 months, followed by a further 1 year limited to a total mileage of 60,000 (for KOLEOS, ZOE and LCV vehicles the third year is limited to a total mileage of 100,000) Your Renault Dealer or Renault Z.E. Dealer is able to repair or replace without charge, parts that are found to have a material or assembly defect that is recognised by Renault.
Should you wish, you'll be able to take out extended warranty cover each year after that until your vehicle is 10 years old or has covered 100,000 miles from new. We'll write to you before your extended warranty expires with details of how to do this.Renault Extended Warranty is not available once your manufacturer warranty has expired
Understanding Towing Preparation
To make sure you purchase the right kit, you first need to identify your towing plug to make sure you have the permanent live cable in the plug.
See the first picture for how and where to locate the plug on the vehicle, see the second picture to identify the location of where the wire should be in the plug if it is not present then you will require the extension kit.
Bypass Relays
Renault Alaskan will require a bypass relay when universal electrics are fitted. Bypass relays are used to ensure that the kit does not present faults on the dashboard.A bypass relay helps the universal kit hide from your vehicle ECU and functions so as not to put faults on the dashboard hence the name “BYPASS”.
A dedicated system works in harmony with your vehicles ECU and all of its functions.
Coding
This is the coding of the ECU to accept the dedicated system, this updates your vehicle's software to run smoothly with the new towbar, it works very much like an update to your smartphone. All Renault Alaskan's will not require coding. Dedicated kits will not invalidate any warranty you may haveBumper cuts
The only option on the Renault Alaskan towbars are No Cut, a bumper cut is not required.Nose weight
Nose weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the tow ball, it is important to not exceed the nose weight set on the tow bar, failure to do so could damage the car chassis and/or tow bar mounting points. For the Renault Alaskan the maximum capacity nose weight is 140kg, nose weights are displayed under each tow bar below.Towing weight
Towing weight is the weight that the Renault Alaskan onwards towbars can tow safely, without damaging the vehicle, the maximum towing weight capacity is 3500kg.You will need to check the towing limit for your model of Renault Alaskan as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.
