Nissan Navara Towing Specifications

The Nissan Navara is the name for the D22, D40 and D23 generations of Nissan pickup trucks. The D22 line began in 1997, replacing the model D21 compact pickup. The Navara gets its name from the Navarre region of northern Spain Below we will cover all three generations of the Nissan Navara's towing specifications.

Nissan Navara 2018 Onwards Towbar electric kits

We recommend that all tow bars fitted to a Nissan Navara 2018 Onwards are fitted with a dedicated electrics kit, this not only helps to ensure all modern features, such as trailer stability, parking sensors function correctly, but also ensures that the vehicles manufacturer’s warranty is not invalidated. A quick look at Nissan's warranty page confirms that for the Nissan Navara 2018 Onwards, only Light Commercial vehicles which are under 5 years old or have less than 100,000 miles on the clock, will have a manufacturers warranty active unless you have taken out the extended warranty.

Understanding Towing Preparation

To make sure you purchase the right kit, you first need to identify your towing plug to make sure you have the permanent live cable in the plug. See the first picture for how and where to locate the plug on the vehicle, see the second picture to identify the location of where the wire should be in the plug if it is not present then you will require the extension kit. Bypass Relays

Nissan Navara 2018 Onwards will require a bypass relay if universal electrics are fitted. Bypass relays are used to ensure that the kit does not present faults on the dashboard. A bypass relay helps the universal kit hide from your vehicle ECU and functions so as not to put faults on the dashboard hence the name “BYPASS”. A dedicated system works in harmony with your vehicles ECU and all of its functions.

Coding

This is the coding of the ECU to accept the dedicated system, this updates your vehicle's software to run smoothly with the new towbar, it works very much like an update to your smartphone. All Nissan Navara 2018 Onwards will NOT require coding if a dedicated kit is fitted.

Bumper cuts

The only option on the Nissan Navara 2018 Onwards towbars are, No Cut, a bumper cut is NOT required.

Nose weight

Nose weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the tow ball, it is important to not exceed the nose weight set on the tow bar, failure to do so could damage the car chassis and/or tow bar mounting points. For the Nissan Navara 2018 Onwards the maximum capacity nose weight is 140kg, nose weights are displayed under each tow bar below.

Towing weight

Towing weight is the weight that the Nissan Navara 2018 Onwards towbars can tow safely, without damaging the vehicle, the maximum towing weight capacity is 3500kg. You will need to check the towing limit for your model of Nissan Navara 2018 Onwards as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.
