Bypass Relays
Mercedes X Class Towbars will require a bypass relay if universal electrics are fitted. Bypass relays are used to ensure that the kit does not present faults on the dashboard.
A bypass relay helps the universal kit hide from your vehicle ECU and functions so as not to put faults on the dashboard hence the name “BYPASS”.
A dedicated system works in harmony with your vehicles ECU and all of its functions.
Coding
This is the coding of the ECU to accept the dedicated system, this updates your vehicle's software to run smoothly with the new towbar, it works very much like an update to your smartphone. All Mercedes X Class Towbar's will NOT require coding if a dedicated kit is fitted.Towing Preparation
To make sure you purchase the right kit, you first need to identify your towing plug to make sure you have the permanent live cable in the plug. See the first picture for how and where to locate the plug on the vehicle, see the second picture to identify the location of where the wire should be in the plug if it is not present then you will require the extension kit.
