We recommend that all bars fitted to 2016 Onwards BMW 5 Series Tourer/Estate G31 are fitted with a dedicated electrics kit, this not only helps to ensure all modern features, such as trailer stability, parking sensors function correctly, but also ensures that the vehicles manufacturer’s warranty is not invalidated. We do of course offer universal electrics kits for 2016 Onwards BMW 5 Series Tourer/Estate towbar fits, as stated these will invalidate any manufacturer warranty you may have.

Bypass Relays

All BMW 5 Series Tourer/Estate 2016 Onwards G31 fits that use a universal towbar electrics kit will require a require a bypass relay, this is to ensure that it does not present faults on the dashboard.

A bypass relay helps the universal kit hide from your vehicle ECU and functions so as not to put faults on the dashboard hence the name “BYPASS”.

A dedicated system works in harmony with your vehicles ECU and all of its functions.

Coding

This is the coding of the ECU to accept the dedicated system, this updates your vehicle's software to run smoothly with the new towbar, it works very much like an update to your smartphone. BMW 5 Series Tourer/Estate vehicles made 2016 Onwards will not require coding.

Bumper cuts

We currently only offer towards that require a none visible cut, or No cut, for the BMW 5 Series Tourer/Estate for the G31, a bumper cut is required.

Nose weight

Nose weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the tow ball, it is important to not exceed the nose weight set on the tow bar, failure to do so could damage the car chassis and/or tow bar mounting points. For the BMW 5 Series Tourer/Estate manufactured 2016 Onwards, the minimum capacity is 90KG the maximum capacity is 130kg, nose weights are displayed under each tow bar below.

Towing weight

Towing weight is the weight that the BMW 5 Series Tourer/Estate 2016 Onwards G31 towbars can tow safely, without damaging the vehicle, the minimum capacity is 1940kg, the maximum capacity is 2300kg for all the tow bars that fit BMW 5 Series Tourer/Estate 2016 Onwards.

You will need to check the towing limit for your model of BMW 5 Series Tourer/Estate 2016 Onwards as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.

There are no dedicated kits for this year range, only universal kits are available.

You will need to check the towing limit for your model of BMW 5 Series Tourer/Estate E39 as it may not be able to tow up to the weight limit that the tow bar can tow.
