What type of bike should you buy?
When it comes to buying a bike, everyone has different requirements which is why there are so many different types of bikes on the market. In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about just some of the different types of bikes available and who exactly they are suitable for.
Road bikes
The easiest option for a new-cyclist is a road bike, which as the name suggests – is designed to for road use. You’re probably thinking “aren’t all bikes for the road?” and whilst yes all bikes can be drove on roads, a road bike is designed especially and solely for road cycling – which means you wouldn’t be bringing this bike with you to a dirt terrain.
The frame of a road bike is more lightweight than others, so if you are just looking for a bike to get about on and don’t plan on tackling any difficult terrains – this type of bike will be perfect for you.
Mountain bikes
If you’re planning to take your bike off-road, then this is the option for you. With a noticeably chunkier frame and more rigged tyres, mountain bikes are designed for uneven terrain and different textures such as dirt, mud and grass.
Mountain bikes will also have a wider range of gears and distinctively bigger tyres, you wouldn’t be able to put the tyres of your mountain bike on a road bike frame!
If you’re planning on mainly off-road adventures, then opt for a mountain bike.
Commuter bikes
A hybrid bike, which is commonly known as a commuter bike is a mix of a road and mountain bike and is generally used just for transport. They give you the option to do everything, which is what has led to them increasing in popularity over the last few years.
If you want to use your bike for mostly getting from A-to-B but also fancy the occasional off-road adventure, then this would be a good option to go for.
Touring Bikes
A touring bike is a road bike that has been designed to carry loads over longer distances. If you plan on long days out, this bike has been designed for you. The key performance features of a touring bike are stability and practicality.
There is space for mudguards and panniers on these bikes, which helps with carrying items over a long distance.
You should get this bike if you plan on going on long-distance trips or you want a commuter with the option of touring one day.
