One of the common queries we get from customers is how to reset a detachable tow bar. When the pins of the towbar get knocked out of position in storage or when getting removed, the tow bar will need to get reset so that it can be loaded again. If the pins are out of position, you won’t be able to insert the tow bar into the housing. 

We have had customers think that this is due to a faulty tow bar but in fact, it is a design feature on detachable tow bars and it often happens but is easy to rectify. It will usually have happened because the neck springs back into a locked position if the release mechanism wasn’t turned enough when you removed the tow bar, so it hasn’t clicked into the open position. 

There is no need to panic and think that you have bought a dodgy towbar, with a few simple steps, you can reset the towbar to its charged state and then load it: 

Resetting the tow bar 

1. Push in the blue twist handle and rotate it completely until the small pin pushes outwards and the large pin retracts out of sight. If the handle will only twist 90 degrees, then it is probably a bit stiff and you will need to make sure you have pushed the handle in before you try to turn it. 

1. With the small pin fully out and the big pin retracted into the mechanism it is now in a  charged state and ready to load. You are now able to insert the neck into the housing and it will securely click into place.
