How to Keep Your Caravan Warm for Winter Touring

One of the great benefits of owning a touring caravan is that you can get away on a break whenever it takes your fancy. You do not have to worry about paying for hotels or accommodation getting fully booked, with so many options for caravan sites with excellent facilities.

As long as you have everything you need for a warm and comfortable trip, you can head out on touring holidays all year round, including throughout winter. If you want to get away on some amazing winter touring trips, here are some tips for keeping your caravan warm:

Insulate your caravan well

Before you think about what heater to use in your caravan, you need to make sure that it is well insulated, to keep the heat inside the vehicle as efficiently as possible. Some small changes like putting up thermal curtains or blinds over windows can make a big difference. You must never block air vents, as this is a major fire risk.

Install double glazed windows

If you have the budget to upgrade to double glazed windows, this will also help to keep your caravan much warmer. There is a significant difference in the amount of heat lost through single-glazed and double-glazed windows.

Upgrade your doors

If your doors are quite old, it is also a good idea to switch to newer ones that will reduce draughts, as your doors are an area that a lot of heat escapes from.

Install carpets or use rugs

The floor is another area where you can lose heat but having a carpet installed in large areas like the living area will keep the room warmer than laminate flooring. Or, as a cheaper and more flexible alternative, you can use large rugs to help insulate the floor and make the caravan more cosy on the colder winter evenings. Another option to consider for your flooring is having underfloor heating installed, as the cost of this has become more affordable than when it was first introduced.

Choose a good quality heater

There are lots of different types of heaters available for caravans, with a big variance in prices. However, it is important not to make your choice based on cost alone, as a more expensive heater can help to reduce the amount of energy consumed to power it. A heater that can start to heat the room immediately and spread heat more evenly across a room will be much more beneficial than one that takes a while to provide warmth around the caravan.

PF Jones offers several caravan heating options, including the own brand PF Jones Air Heater 12V/40W Vehicle Heating Kit. At £399, it is a more cost-effective option than many of the other brands, while still delivering a great level of performance. The heater does not require the engine to be working and is easy to install.
