Coding is required to tell the vehicles ECU that a towbar is present so the towing electrics will function properly. This is done with a diagnostic tool, and may need to be done by the main dealers.

Bypass Required
Many modern vehicles require a bypass relay for the towbar electrics to work correctly. If your vehicle requires this relay then damage can occur to the cars electrics if one isn't fitted.
Our data is collected from the tow bar and tow bar wiring manufacturers with regards to whether your vehicle needs a bypass relay.

Excellent service buying from PF Jones, but the towbar arrived bent in two places. At a small bracket which wasn't actually used and more worrying at one end of the crossbeam. This is a result of poor packaging. The towbar is 26Kg of substantial bits of steel in a cardboard box. Something like that should be packaged in such a way that it can be dropped/thrown and not be damaged. Unfortunately I had the back end off the car and only noticed the cross beam damage when I tried to fit it, The bracket damage I had already reported to the supplier and was happy to bend it back into shape. As it happens, the bracket not required during fitting. There was no way I was going to put the car back together without fitting the towbar, so a couple of blows with an 'adjuster' got the cross beam back to square. Apart from that problem, the towbar (Witter swan neck for 2016 Honda CRV) was excellent design made of substantial steel and relatively easy to fit, apart from having to drill holes in my car, but it seems the norm for towbar for the CRV. The towbar when fitted is very neat and doesn't interfere with the reverse sensors. So only three stars, because of the poor packaging and consequential damage.
Can you confirm that the swan neck tow bar for a 2012 on CRV HN69AS is compatible with an ALKO hitch.
Thanks Steve

All Swan necks are compatible with ALKO hitches, you only have problems when your vehicles bumper does not leave enough clearance for the larger hitch. This is only usually an issue with vehicles with sports bumpers.
Will the parking sensors still function with the HN69S when the caravan isn't attached, or do they interfere with the ball?
Thanks

Every vehicle is different, it just depends on how the sensors have been calibrated in the factory some will see the tow ball, some won't. This is why we recommend detachable towbars with vehicles that have parking sensors.
