Top family cycling routes in the UK

Now that life seems to be creeping back to somewhat normal, we thought we would share some great destinations in the UK for cycling. Cycling can be a great activity for all the family, making sure you’re all having fun and keeping fit at the same time.

Plus, cycling in the great outdoors is a great activity to do to maintain social distancing – so it’s a win/win for everyone.

Monsal Trail, Peak District

This trail is perfect for beginners as it is based on a disused railway, meaning you don’t have to worry about traffic. You can use your own bikes, however there is the option for a bike hire there too. There are also stops for drinks and refreshments should anyone in the group start to feel peckish or thirsty. The trail overall has great views of the peak district and travels through a valley with beautiful tunnels.

Brecon to Talybont Towpath, Brecon National Park

This is a particularly excellent choice if you have smaller children who have just started to cycle. This runs alongside the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and is completely traffic-free as well as being completely flat. It’s a perfectly easy ride, as well as a stunningly beautiful one. Following the lovely canal the whole way, this is a great route for beginner cyclists.

The Strawberry Line, Somerset

Aptly named, this 10-mile path is the perfect place for a picturesque bike ride. On this ride, you will see the wildlife inhabited wetlands, apple orchards, wooded valleys and the Cheddar Gorge. It is mostly traffic-free and has well-managed gravel tracks, so it is ideal for children. There’s also plenty of refreshment stops on this trail!

West Loch Lomond Cycle Path, Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park

This trail is 17-miles of gorgeous scenery and is almost traffic-free, so again another one which is suitable for children. It’s mostly level too, so quite an easy ride whilst serving up the beautiful scenery offered by Loch Lomond and its famous islands.
