Once you buy a car roof box, you will wonder why you didn’t get one sooner. Whether you are going on camping trips, have a hobby that requires large equipment or want to pack a lot for the kids, a roof box makes it a lot easier and gives you a lot more space in your car.
There are many benefits of using a roof box, including that there will be more room in your vehicle, so passengers will be able to travel in comfort, rather than being crammed in with the luggage. It is also safer to carry items in a roof box, rather than having them in the vehicle with you. Overfilling a car can obstruct the driver’s vision, as well as there is a risk of items moving about in the vehicle and causing injury or an accident.
A roof box offers secure storage to enable you to take more luggage on your staycations, using it for storing items you won’t need until you unpack, while you can use the boot to pack items you might need quick access to.
Why choose a Thule roof box?
There are several reputable roof box brands to choose from, but Thule is regularly voted the best in expert reviews and has won awards such as the iF Product Design Awards. Starting in Sweden in 1942, Thule has always offered a huge range of different roof boxes, priced to meet all budgets. As well as being designed for aero dynamicity, the roof boxes look sleek and are easy to mount.
The pre-installed PowerClick quick-mount system available on some models is a major plus and the advanced SlideLock system ensures ultimate security to protect your belongings.
The different Thule ranges include:
Ocean
The Ocean roof boxes are at the lower end of the price scale, starting from £188 for a 320l volume with a load capacity of 50kg. There are also models with a 330l, 360l and 450l volume available, if you are looking for one that will hold more than the 320l. The Thule Ocean 80 Roof Box is the most popular in the range.
Ranger
The Ranger is a foldable design that is perfect if you have minimal storage when you are not using your roof box. The EasySnap quick-mount system makes the mounting easy and on the Ranger 500, there are extension areas with zippers so you can adjust the size of the box to suit your needs.
Motion XT
The Motion XT range offers larger volumes and the ease of using the Powerclick mounting system. This range also benefits from the SlideLock system which automatically locks the lid in place and indicates when the box is securely closed. Motion XT roof boxes start from £473.
Force XT
The Force XT range includes some larger roof boxes, with a load capacity of 75kg. The largest is the Force XT XL 500 which has a 500l volume and can carry 5-7 pairs of skis. Prices range from £341 to £484, and the black matte finish makes it one of the more aesthetically attractive roof box designs. All Force XT roof boxes benefit from the Powerclick mounting system.
Vector
The Vector range is the premium roof box from Thule with a lot larger carrying capacity, and due to their more sophisticated design and additional features, they are the more expensive options at £1,300/£1,400. If you are carrying expensive equipment, the felt-lined base and lighting will help you to prevent any damage during transit. Vector roof boxes also have the Powerclick mounting system for easy, fast mounting.
The sooner you invest in a Thule roof box, the sooner you can start enjoying your adventures, securely storing your sports equipment or luggage, getting great value for your money, year after year.
