How to properly plan a trip

We’re all itching to get back on the road and to restart our adventures with family or a bunch of your best friends. Whether that is a family caravanning trip, a fishing trip with your friends, or a road trip to a sunnier climate abroad, we’re here to give you some tips on how to effectively plan your trip so it runs as smoothly as it can go!

So, if you're thinking of planning your ideal trip once lockdown is over, read on as we narrow down advice on how to make your trip run smoothly!

Travelling abroad

If you are lucky enough to be planning a trip to a warmer destination, make sure you are as prepared as possible with plenty of essentials. Remember, it is a long journey home should you forget anything! If you are travelling with your caravan to a hotter, further away destination, remember to check that your caravan has been fully serviced in the last 12 months. This will ensure that you won't have any last-minute technical problems on the road or once you arrive at your destination.

Travel insurance that is suitable for the country you are visiting will also be your best friend. There are travel insurance options such as Caravan Club Red Pennant which will provide services such as emergency breakdown roadside assistance, and repairs and recovery help.

Also, remember to keep your local currency on you, should you need to pay for any repairs or petrol during your road trip!

 Travelling with Pets

Just like us, pets often require a pet passport when travelling between countries. Make sure that you check the policies and procedures of the country you are travelling to and pick up your pet's passport from your vet. After all, who would want to leave man's best friend back home?

Before you travel, it is worth checking out if the caravan site that you are travelling to accepts pets on site. Although dogs are usually accepted, it is worth seeing where about on the campsite they can be walked and if they can be with you as much as you would like on the campsite. Some campsites have designated dog areas, so this will be something to research before you head off. You should also consider investing in a pet identification tag that includes your pets name and your contact details.

Travelling with Children

If you are travelling as a family and taking your children on a much-deserved trip, it is worth checking if your destination is family-friendly and can offer facilities to keep the kids entertained.

An essential for being on the road with children is a first aid and safety box. We know that children can get up to mischief so make sure you keep them protected with a range of aids and plasters. Also, remember to carry a bag full of goodies and a small box of games to make your road trip as fun as possible!

Travelling in the UK

We know that the UK can experience the most temperamental weather conditions, even if you are planning a trip in the summer, prepare for any weather! Make sure that you are prepared to fight off any sudden rain, or any cooler evenings.

Investing in a heater for your caravan will help keep you comfortable as the sun goes down. You can look at our range of heaters here. Make sure your barbeque is sheltered from any spits of rain by including a fold-up gazebo. Also, remember to pack your umbrellas so you can continue your campsite adventures come rain or shine!
