Best Campsites for Family Fun in Autumn and Winter

The cold is a great time to take a family break to spend some quality time together and enjoy the great British countryside at a quieter time of year. Finding a campsite with excellent facilities or nearby attractions to keep the family entertained will help to ensure you have a fun trip, even if the weather keeps you indoors for some of it.

These are some of the best campsites open throughout autumn and winter for a family getaway:

Lady’s Mile Holiday Park, Dawlish, Devon

For a winter break where the kids can enjoy a heated indoor swimming pool with waterslides, Lady’s Mile has plenty going on all year round. There is also an onsite arcade with loads of games, a soft-play area, outdoor playgrounds and bike pump track. The onsite restaurant serves all the usual family favourite meals and there’s also a bar to keep the adults entertained too.

Bardsea Leisure Park, Ulverston, Cumbria

If you want to explore the best of the British countryside for some stunning winter walks, Bardsea Leisure Park is based in the picturesque Lake District, with some fantastic nearby coastal walks. Situated a mile from Ulverston, the park has a large outdoor playground and just 300m away is a leisure centre with a swimming pool as a backup plan if you need an indoor activity option.

Delamere Forest, Camping and Caravanning Club Site, Northwich

Stay in the heart of Cheshire within the picturesque Delamere Forest, where you can enjoy winter walks, bike trails and plenty of local attractions. There is a Go Ape just a short walk from the campsite, offering a day of treetop fun for older kids and adults, while the historic city of Chester is just a short drive, or you can take a train there in just 20 minutes. You can also visit Chester Zoo or head to Cheshire Oaks for shopping, bowling, the cinema and the Blue Planet Aquarium.

Kingsbury Water Park Camping and Caravanning Club Site, Sutton Coldfield

The Midlands based Kingsbury Water Park in Sutton Coldfield has fantastic facilities, including a children’s playground. There are some picturesque walks around the water park and further afield, as well as some good cycle trails nearby. The site is in a tranquil location but close to some great attractions like Cadbury World and if you are planning a festive trip, the Birmingham Christmas Market is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Rossendale Holiday Cottages and Campsite, Lancashire

Nestled in an idyllic area of Lancashire, this campsite has stunning views as well as a children’s playground and nature trail. Evening entertainment is taken care of in the games room with a pool table, table tennis and other games. There is a café bar onsite serving food and drink and Ski Rossendale, one of the best outdoor ski and snowboarding centres in the UK is just down the road.
