Activities for School Holidays
The school holidays are coming up again, so it is a good idea to have some plans to suit the different weather that could be on its way. Having a few dry weather and wet weather options prepared should give you enough ideas to ensure the holidays are spent doing fun things as a family, rather than getting ruined by boredom or the kids spending the whole time indoors playing online games or watching TV. Getting outdoors and doing activities together is more fun for everyone and can give you some quality time together that you don’t get when the kids are at school and everyone is too busy with the daily routine.
Here are some ideas for family fun over the school holidays:
Bike rides in national parks
If you like the idea of going on a bike ride but you don’t like the idea of cycling in places that could be dangerous then one of the best places to try is a national park, where your family can cycle through off-road routes, through forests or other lovely spots without worrying about traffic. Lots of national parks also have some fun activities like play areas or animal farms to visit. You can get a family pass for parks that are in the National Trust and make a full day of it by taking a picnic.
Visit free museums
If you want to make sure you don’t spend a small fortune, it is worth checking out the free activities in your local area, such as the nearest museums. By doing a bit of research, you will probably be able to find some free activities that your kids will be interested in, such as the National Football Museum, the Royal Air Force Museum or the Science Museum. As well as being educational, most modern museums now incorporate interactive technology and games to make learning more fun for kids.
Free sports lessons
If your kids love sports then you should check out if there are any free activities taking place, as clubs often receive funding to provide sports coaching to children to help boost participation. For example, the Lawn Tennis Association provide Big Tennis Weekends for families to develop tennis skills.
A trip to Center Parcs
For a really fun way to keep the family entertained, a couple of days in Center Parcs is ideal for activities that are suitable no matter what the weather is doing. From indoor waterparks to Tree Trekking and watersports, there are so many exciting options to choose from. There are Center Parcs venues across the UK to choose from including Sherwood Forest and Whinfell Forest.
